About
Picturesque 27-hole championship layout between Hanoi and Halong Bay
Open since 2003 and located in a picturesque valley east of Hanoi, Chi Linh Star Golf Club is a 27-hole championship-standard golf course that played host to the first first professional golf tournament in Northern Vietnam, the 2004 Carlsberg Masters. A particularly beautiful course made up of three nine hole loops and blessed with TifEagle grass greens, it plays through rolling forested hills, with generous bunkering, some thick rough and occasional water hazards the main threats.
There's no water to contend with the on the Hillside Nine, the most undulating of the three loops, but that doesn't mean you're in for an easy ride, with the narrow fairways bordered by deep rough, particularly at the 427-yard par-4 3rd, the most difficult on the course. Here, your tee shot must carry a centrally-located fairway bunker to find a fairway that gradually tapers en route to the small green.
The 5th and 8th are a pair of attractive par 3s, the green of each guarded front and back by sand, while the last hole is another long, tough par-4 with a very narrow fairway and more troublesome rough off-line.
The Valley Nine is more open, but starts with a quartet of tough and heavily bunkered par 4s, the 3rd requiring the first water carry of the day off the tee. The 6th is an attractive par 3 featuring a trio of menacing bunkers surrounding the green and a steep run-off short, although the other par-3, the 8th, is easier, despite the wide bunker in front of the green.
As the name would suggest, water becomes a threat on the Lake Nine, although its the heavy bunker on the opening trio of holes that offer the first line of defence. At the par-3 4th, the course starts to live up to its name, with your tee shot needing to clear both a small lake and a substantial bunker in front of the green, and there's more water to contend with off the tee at the 7th and 8th.
The final hole ensures you can't let your guard down, even though water is only a threat for the wildest of slices off the tee. A behemoth of an uphill par-5, it measures a whopping 680 yards from the back tees, requiring three solid blows to reach the green in regulation.
With its challenging 27-hole layout and stunning natural beauty, Chi Linh Golf is a must-play course for anyone on a golf holiday in Hanoi.
